The lake

About Broken Bow Lake

Broken Bow Lake was created in 1968 when the Corps of Engineers dammed the Mountain Fork River in the Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma, filling by 1970 to about 14,000 acres with 180 miles of shoreline and depths near 180 feet. The dam forced the relocation of the community of Hochatown, which has since become the area's cabin town. Below the dam, the Lower Mountain Fork stays cold year-round and is one of the South's few true trout rivers; Beavers Bend State Park sits at the lake's south end.
