About Lake Tenkiller

Tenkiller Ferry Lake, known simply as Lake Tenkiller, was formed in 1952 when the Corps of Engineers dammed the Illinois River in the Cookson Hills near Gore and Tahlequah, in eastern Oklahoma. It covers about 12,900 acres with a maximum depth around 130 feet, and its clarity — regularly 10 to 20 feet of visibility — makes it one of the state's few scuba-diving lakes. The lake and dam are named for the Tenkiller family, prominent Cherokees who owned the land and ferry before the project.

On the board
  • 24 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 1,556 roads engraved around the shore, 4 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake Tenkiller is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
