About Crater Lake
Crater Lake fills the caldera left when Mount Mazama collapsed in a catastrophic eruption about 7,700 years ago. With no inlets or outlets — only snow and rain — it is 1,949 feet deep, the deepest lake in the United States and one of the clearest anywhere, and its blue is unlike any other water.
Wizard Island, a cinder cone, rises from the west end; the Old Man of the Lake, a hemlock log, has floated upright for more than a century. Crater Lake National Park, Oregon's only national park, was created in 1902 after William Gladstone Steel spent seventeen years campaigning for it.

The lake covers about 20.6 square miles, and 17 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

Is it made from real depth data?
Yes. Crater Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
Can I add my own place on it?
