About Wallowa Lake

Wallowa Lake near Joseph in northeastern Oregon is about 3.5 miles long and 299 feet deep, held between lateral moraines so perfect they appear in geology textbooks. It was the homeland of Chief Joseph's band of the Nez Perce; the tramway at the south end climbs to Mount Howard above the Eagle Cap Wilderness.

On the board
  • 23 roads engraved around the shore, 1 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Wallowa Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
