The lake
About Lake Oswego
Lake Oswego is a natural lake south of Portland, Oregon, enlarged by a 1920s dam on Oswego Creek to about 405 acres and 55 feet deep, and owned by the Lake Oswego Corporation of shoreline homeowners. The town around it grew from an 1860s iron-smelting works whose furnace still stands in George Rogers Park.
The Oregon Iron Company's promoters reinvented the lake as a resort in the 1920s, and it has been one of Portland's wealthiest suburbs ever since; Lakewood Bay and the Lakeview Village shops sit at its east end.
