About Lake Jocassee

Lake Jocassee was built in 1973 by Duke Power in partnership with South Carolina, with a 385-foot dam impounding the confluence of the Whitewater, Thompson, Horsepasture and Toxaway rivers below the Blue Ridge escarpment. It covers about 7,500 acres and reaches over 300 feet deep, with water cold and clear enough to be a serious scuba destination in the South. Devils Fork State Park sits on the shore near Salem, and Laurel Fork Falls and several other waterfalls pour directly into the lake from the mountains above. It also holds several South Carolina state fishing records.

On the board
  • 2 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 76 roads engraved around the shore, 0 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake Jocassee is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
