The lake
About Lake Keowee
Lake Keowee in the South Carolina upstate was filled in 1971 by Duke Power on the Keowee and Little rivers, with the Jocassee dam upstream feeding it. It covers about 18,000 acres with roughly 300 miles of shoreline, and the water is noticeably clearer and colder than the Piedmont lakes to the south.
The Cliffs communities, Keowee Key and the town of Seneca sit on its shores; Clemson is a few miles away. The Cherokee town of Keowee, the 'place of mulberries', lies under the northern part of the lake.
