About Lake Casa Blanca
Lake Casa Blanca sits on the southeastern edge of Laredo, Texas, formed when the city dammed Chacon Creek to secure a municipal water supply for the growing border town. Unlike a natural lake, its level has always been a function of the dam rather than seasonal runoff, and it sits close enough to downtown Laredo that residents could reach the shoreline within a short drive. Laredo itself grew as a trade hub on the Rio Grande, tied economically to its sister city, Nuevo Laredo, across the river in Mexico.
Today the lake is bordered by Lake Casa Blanca International State Park, a Texas Parks and Wildlife property on its north shore with trails, picnic areas, and boat ramps. Anglers work it for largemouth bass, and local bass clubs run tournaments on the water through the year. Its shallow, warm reservoir water and location inside city limits make it more of a neighborhood fishing and paddling spot for Laredo families than a remote destination lake, with the park drawing steady weekend foot traffic from the surrounding subdivisions.
