The lake
About Lake Travis
Lake Travis was formed in 1942 by Mansfield Dam on the Colorado River northwest of Austin, the largest of the Highland Lakes chain. It runs about 64 miles with 270 miles of shoreline and depths to 210 feet at the dam, and its level swings dramatically with Central Texas drought and flood.
Lakeway, Volente, Hudson Bend and the Oasis restaurant's sunset deck are the lake's landmarks; Hippie Hollow is the state's only clothing-optional park. Devil's Cove is where the party boats raft up.
