About Lake Meredith

The Canadian River was dammed at Sanford, Texas, with Sanford Dam completed in 1965, creating a reservoir now called Lake Meredith. The lake sits in the Texas Panhandle near Fritch, Sanford, and Dumas, north of Amarillo. It was built primarily to supply municipal water to Panhandle cities through the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority. The surrounding canyon country cuts through red rock bluffs and mesquite flats, a landscape shaped by the same river that now backs up behind the dam.

Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, administered by the National Park Service, surrounds the water and borders Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument, where Plains tribes quarried flint for thousands of years. The lake draws boaters, campers, and anglers who fish for striped bass, walleye, and catfish. Its level has swung sharply with drought and inflow from the Canadian River, dropping to some of its lowest points in decades during the early 2010s before rising again. Towns like Fritch and Sanford sit along its shoreline, and Amarillo residents make up much of the weekend traffic.

Why we cut this one
Lake Meredith is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lake Meredith depth chart, in wood

This is a Lake Meredith depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 20 ft, 40 ft, 59 ft, 79 ft, 99 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 119 ft. The lake covers about 14.0 square miles, and 441 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lake Meredith map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lake Meredith for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lake Meredith.

Questions

Lake Meredith map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lake Meredith; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lake Meredith is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
