About Lake Ray Hubbard
Lake Ray Hubbard was completed in 1969 when the City of Dallas finished the Rockwall-Forney Dam on the East Fork Trinity River, about 22,745 acres with a maximum depth of 40 feet. It was first called Forney Lake, then renamed for Ray Hubbard, who chaired the Dallas parks board from 1943 to 1972. Rockwall and Heath sit on its east shore; the lake is a drinking-water reservoir, so swimming is banned, and sailing regattas and striped-bass fishing fill the water instead.
