The lake
About Lake Whitney
Lake Whitney was completed in 1951 when the Corps of Engineers finished Whitney Dam on the Brazos River, about 23,500 acres with 225 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 108 feet. Whitney, Hillsboro and Clifton are its towns, an hour south of Fort Worth. The Texas Legislature named the area the state's official 'Getaway Capital' in 2005, and its limestone bluffs and clear coves have made it one of the more scenic lakes on the river.
