About Lavon Lake

Lavon Lake sits on the East Fork of the Trinity River in Collin County, Texas, northeast of Dallas. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the original dam in 1953, then raised it in 1979 to expand storage. The reservoir now serves as the primary water source for the North Texas Municipal Water District, supplying suburbs including Plano, Garland, and McKinney. The towns of Wylie, Lucas, and Princeton sit along its shoreline, along with the small community of Lavon itself.

The lake draws sailors, wakeboarders, and bass and crappie anglers from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with several marinas and a sailing club operating along its banks. Falling water levels periodically expose stretches of shoreline underlain by Cretaceous-era seabed, and rockhounds comb the mud for shark teeth and other marine fossils. Development around the lake has grown alongside Wylie and Lucas, once farm towns and now fast-growing suburbs, while the lake itself remains largely undeveloped compared with older reservoirs closer to downtown Dallas.

Why we cut this one
Lavon Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lavon Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Lavon Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 7 ft, 15 ft, 22 ft, 30 ft, 37 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 45 ft. The lake covers about 27.2 square miles, and 2023 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lavon Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lavon Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lavon Lake.

Questions

Lavon Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lavon Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lavon Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
