About Stillhouse Hollow Lake
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Lampasas River to form Stillhouse Hollow Lake, completing the project in 1968 as part of a flood-control system built alongside the nearby Belton and Georgetown reservoirs. The dam sits a few miles southwest of Temple, Texas, with the towns of Belton and Salado bordering its upper reaches. Construction displaced rural farmland and a handful of small homesteads, a common story for Central Texas reservoirs built in the postwar decades to manage Brazos River basin flooding downstream.
