About Scofield Reservoir
Scofield Reservoir sits on the Price River in Carbon County, Utah, on the Wasatch Plateau near the town of Scofield and the city of Price. The area was built on coal mining, and the nearby Winter Quarters Mine was the site of the deadliest coal mining disaster in Utah history: an explosion on May 1, 1900, killed roughly 200 miners, most of them from Scofield and the surrounding camps.
The reservoir was later built by damming the Price River, and it now supplies irrigation water and serves as a source of water for Price and other Carbon County communities. Sitting at high elevation on the plateau, it draws anglers for rainbow and tiger trout, with ice fishing common through the winter months, and campgrounds line its shore for visitors passing through on Highway 96.
