About Eagle Lake
Eagle Lake sits in Racine County, Wisconsin, one of a chain of small kettle lakes left behind after glaciers retreated from southeastern Wisconsin at the end of the last ice age. The basin is shallow and broad rather than deep, a common shape for lakes formed this way in the region. It lies close enough to the city of Racine that it draws weekend traffic from nearby towns without being a major regional destination itself.
The lake covers roughly 484 acres with about four miles of shoreline, ringed mostly by year-round and seasonal homes rather than public parkland. Its shallow water, with a modeled maximum depth near ten feet, supports heavy weed growth and warms quickly in summer, conditions that favor panfish and largemouth bass over cold-water species. Fishing, pontoon boats, and swimming off private docks make up most of the activity, and the lake stays quiet enough that ice fishing shanties are a common winter sight.
