About Green Lake

Green Lake in Green Lake County, Wisconsin, is the deepest natural inland lake in the state at 237 feet, about 7 miles long with a steep, wooded shore. The Winnebago called it the lake of the green color; the Oakwood Hotel opened on it in 1867, making it the oldest resort area west of Niagara.

The city of Green Lake and the Green Lake Conference Center — once the Lawson estate — are the landmarks; the lake's clarity comes from being spring-fed and surrounded by hills.

On the board
  • 22 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 376 roads engraved around the shore, 21 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Green Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
