About Jersey City Flowage

Jersey City Flowage is an impounded lake in Oneida County, Wisconsin, a few miles from Rhinelander. Like most flowages in this part of the state, it exists because a dam backed up a river valley, and its long, branching shoreline still traces the flooded creek beds and low ground the water now covers. At roughly 2,347 acres with about 26 miles of shore, it runs wide rather than deep, with a modeled maximum depth around 80 feet.

Rhinelander built its economy on lumber and paper, and the lake country around it, including Jersey City Flowage, grew up as an extension of that world: mill families, fishing guides, and later vacationers who traded a sawmill shift for a dock. Oneida County's lakes are known for muskie and walleye, and the flowage draws the same crowd, anglers working its bays and cabin owners who return to the same lot each summer, a pattern that has held in this part of northern Wisconsin for generations.

Why we cut this one
Jersey City Flowage is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Jersey City Flowage depth chart, in wood

This is a Jersey City Flowage depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 13 ft, 27 ft, 40 ft, 53 ft, 67 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 80 ft. The lake covers about 3.9 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Jersey City Flowage map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Jersey City Flowage for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Jersey City Flowage.

Questions

Jersey City Flowage map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Jersey City Flowage; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Jersey City Flowage is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
