About Lake Mallalieu
Lake Mallalieu sits in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, formed when the Willow River was dammed near its mouth, just before the river empties into the St. Croix. The lake is narrow and river-shaped rather than round, tracing the original channel of the Willow for roughly four miles of shoreline. It lies just east of Hudson, Wisconsin, a short drive from St. Paul and Minneapolis across the St. Croix River valley.
The lake sits close enough to the Twin Cities that it draws weekend boat traffic and second-home owners alongside Hudson locals. Houses line most of the shore, mixed with public access points used for fishing and paddling. Anglers work it for bass, panfish, and walleye, while its narrow, river-fed shape keeps current moving through it in a way that sets it apart from the round kettle lakes common elsewhere in the county.
