About Little Muskego Lake

Little Muskego Lake sits inside the city of Muskego, in Waukesha County, about twenty miles southwest of Milwaukee. It formed like the rest of the area's kettle lakes, carved out as glaciers retreated at the end of the last ice age and left behind the rolling, pothole-studded terrain of the Kettle Moraine. It shares its name, and its basin, with the larger Big Muskego Lake just to the south, though the two have long had separate identities among local families and anglers.

The lake covers about 482 acres and holds roughly five miles of shoreline, most of it lined with year-round homes rather than seasonal cabins, a shift that came as Muskego grew from a farm town into a Milwaukee suburb in the second half of the twentieth century. Anglers know it for largemouth bass, bluegill, and northern pike, and boaters use it for water skiing and pontoon cruising in summer. Its deepest water runs to about 38 feet, modest compared with lakes further north but enough to hold cooler water through the season.

Why we cut this one
Little Muskego Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Little Muskego Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Little Muskego Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 6 ft, 13 ft, 19 ft, 26 ft, 32 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 38 ft. The lake covers about 0.8 square miles, and 129 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Little Muskego Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Little Muskego Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Little Muskego Lake.

Questions

Little Muskego Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Little Muskego Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Little Muskego Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
