About Mill Lake
Mill Lake sits in Waukesha County, part of the belt of kettle lakes left across southeastern Wisconsin when the last glacier retreated roughly 12,000 years ago. Meltwater trapped by buried ice blocks carved the basin, and groundwater has fed it since. The lake covers about 768 acres, with roughly 11 miles of shoreline threading past bays and points. Waukesha itself sits a short drive east, and the lake has long drawn boaters and anglers out from the wider Milwaukee area on weekends.
The basin runs deep for its size, reaching about 71 feet at its lowest point, well below many of the shallower lakes scattered through the same county. That depth keeps the lower water cool through summer, and anglers work it for species that hold in the cooler layers while others fish closer to shore. Shoreline development mixes older cottages with newer year-round houses, and the lake stays busy with pontoon boats and water skiers through the warm months.
