About Tichigan Lake
Tichigan Lake is a wide, slow stretch of the Fox River in Racine County, Wisconsin, a short drive from Waukesha. The lake covers roughly 1,315 acres and carries about 24 miles of shoreline, most of it built up with year-round homes and seasonal cottages rather than left as open shore. Boat traffic runs steady in summer, and the lake functions less like a stand-alone kettle lake and more like a broad river pool, since it is really the Fox itself spread wide behind a downstream dam.
Depth on Tichigan tops out around 31 feet, and much of the lake runs far shallower, which keeps the water warm and weedy through summer. That shallow, fertile profile favors walleye, largemouth bass, and panfish over cold-water species, and it draws anglers who fish the weed edges and river channel rather than deep basins. The lake sits alongside the Tichigan Wildlife Area, a state-managed marsh and grassland tract, giving the shoreline a mix of dense residential frontage on one side and open wetland on the other.
