About Lake Furman Shoals
Lake Furman Shoals lies just outside Macon, Georgia, covering roughly 9,377 acres of water. Its shoreline runs about 128 miles, a long, uneven perimeter relative to its surface area, which points to a shape built from coves and shallow arms rather than one open basin. The name points to the same feature: shoal water and irregular bottom contours rather than a single deep channel.
With a maximum depth of about 68 feet, the lake stays shallow across most of its footprint, keeping the water warmer through summer than a deeper lake of similar size. That combination of shallow water and a long, cove-cut shoreline favors small boats, kayaks, and bank or dock fishing over open-water cruising. Most traffic on the lake comes from the Macon area rather than from farther away.
