About Lake Oconee

Lake Oconee was formed in 1979 when Georgia Power finished Wallace Dam on the Oconee River, upstream of Lake Sinclair; the two lakes are linked by a pumped-storage plant that runs water both ways. The lake covers about 19,000 acres with 374 miles of shoreline between Greensboro, Eatonton and Madison.

Reynolds Lake Oconee, with its six golf courses and the Ritz-Carlton, turned the lake into Atlanta's second-home country in the 1990s; the north shore is quieter, with the old town of Greensboro and the Piedmont farmland behind it.

On the board
  • 24 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 1,784 roads engraved around the shore, 2 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake Oconee is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
