The lake
About Lake Nottely
Lake Nottely lies just outside Blairsville, Georgia, formed in 1942 when the Tennessee Valley Authority dammed the Nottely River in the mountains of Union County. Ninety-one families had to be relocated to fill it, and the lake runs to about 98 feet deep near the dam. About seventy percent of its shoreline is still undeveloped national forest, which keeps it quieter than most lakes its size. Blairsville, a couple hours north of Atlanta, is the closest town and the gateway to the surrounding national forest.
