About Lake Peachtree
Lake Peachtree sits in Peachtree City, Georgia, a planned community built starting in 1959 southwest of Atlanta in Fayette County. The lake was created as part of that development, one of several man-made lakes laid out alongside the town's golf cart path network, which now runs over 100 miles and connects neighborhoods, schools, and shopping centers. Peachtree City itself was founded around the same era as the lake, designed from the outset around cart access rather than car-only streets.
The lake covers roughly 232 acres and borders residential streets, a golf course, and city parkland, with a dam at its southern end. Local families use it for fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, and the shoreline includes a public beach and picnic area near Drake Field. Its cart paths and bridges make it one of the few Georgia lakes reachable on foot or by golf cart from most homes in the surrounding subdivisions, a byproduct of the city's original 1959 planning.
