The lake
About Lake Rabun
Lake Rabun is the second in a chain of six lakes that Georgia Power built along the Tallulah River in the mountains of Rabun County, Georgia, backed up behind Mathis Dam, finished in 1915. It's small, about 835 acres, with a rocky, winding shoreline and old stone boathouses tucked into the coves. The lake didn't fully fill until a diversion tunnel was finished a decade later, and it has been a low-key retreat for well-off Georgia families ever since, with Lakemont its small lakeside village.
