About Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake near Frankfort and Beulah in northwest Michigan is about 9 miles long and 165 feet deep, one of the clearest lakes in the state, separated from Lake Michigan by a strip of dunes. An 1873 attempt to build a canal accidentally dropped the lake level by twenty feet, creating the sandy beaches that ring it today.
