About Fox Hollow Lake

Fox Hollow Lake sits a few miles from Paterson, in the belt of small basins and ponds that line the Passaic County highlands west of the Passaic River. The area grew up around Paterson's 19th-century mill economy, and the ridgelines and stream valleys nearby were parceled off for reservoirs, quarries, and later suburban neighborhoods as the city expanded outward through the 20th century. Lakes of this size in the region were typically shaped by small earthen dams built to hold back a local stream for water supply, mill power, or a planned residential development.

At roughly 59 acres with about a mile of shoreline, Fox Hollow Lake is small enough to see across in a glance but holds a maximum depth near 41 feet, deep relative to its footprint. That kind of depth-to-area ratio usually points to a natural kettle or a narrow flooded valley rather than a shallow, dredged pond. The surrounding towns in this part of Passaic County are largely residential, built out from Paterson's old industrial core, and lakes like this one function as neighborhood fixtures for anglers and nearby homeowners rather than as regional destinations.

Why we cut this one
Fox Hollow Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Fox Hollow Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Fox Hollow Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 7 ft, 14 ft, 21 ft, 28 ft, 34 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 41 ft. The lake covers about 0.1 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Fox Hollow Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Fox Hollow Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Fox Hollow Lake.

Questions

Fox Hollow Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Fox Hollow Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Fox Hollow Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
