About Makepeace Lake
Makepeace Lake sits in the pine and cedar country of Atlantic County, New Jersey, a short drive inland from Atlantic City. Like many small lakes in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, its water carries the tannic, tea-brown color typical of the region's cedar swamps and bogs, a look distinct from the clear glacial lakes found further north. The surrounding land is flat, sandy, and lightly developed compared to the shore towns nearby.
The lake covers roughly 200 acres with about three miles of shoreline, making it a modest, mostly residential body of water rather than a large recreational destination. It draws boaters, anglers, and homeowners who want quiet water within reach of Atlantic City's casinos and beaches. Depths run to about 45 feet, giving it enough room for boating and fishing without the scale of the state's larger reservoirs.
