About Bell Cow Lake

Bell Cow Lake lies a few miles from Shawnee, Oklahoma, impounding Bell Cow Creek behind an earthen dam built to supply water to the surrounding rural district. The lake covers about 907 acres, with roughly 9 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth near 42 feet, small next to Oklahoma's flood-control reservoirs on the Canadian and Arkansas systems. Its modest size and depth trace directly to its original purpose: holding drinking water, not managing floodwater or producing power.

The lake carries an outsized reputation among Oklahoma anglers because of its largemouth bass. In the 1980s, fishermen pulled a series of state-record bass from Bell Cow, one catch topping the last within the same stretch of water. That run of record fish turned a small, lightly developed water-supply lake into a stop for serious bass fishermen. Shawnee locals and anglers from across central Oklahoma still work its banks and ramps, drawn less by acreage than by the lake's history of producing giant bass.

Why we cut this one
Bell Cow Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Bell Cow Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Bell Cow Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 7 ft, 14 ft, 21 ft, 28 ft, 35 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 42 ft. The lake covers about 1.5 square miles, and 40 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Bell Cow Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Bell Cow Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Bell Cow Lake.

Questions

Bell Cow Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Bell Cow Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Bell Cow Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
