About Lake Bomoseen
Lake Bomoseen spans Castleton and Hubbardton in Rutland County, Vermont, a glacially formed lake of about 2,400 acres and 65 feet at its deepest, the largest lake lying wholly within the state. Old slate quarries around Bomoseen State Park recall the region's industry, and in the 1920s critic Alexander Woollcott's island retreat drew members of the Algonquin Round Table, including Harpo Marx and Walt Disney. Today it's a boating, fishing and swimming lake, draining toward the Castleton River and Lake Champlain.
