The lake
About Lake Willoughby
Lake Willoughby fills a glacial trench in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, in the town of Westmore, with Mount Pisgah rising on one side and Mount Hor on the other. It covers about 1,687 acres and runs five miles long, more than 300 feet deep in places — likely the deepest lake entirely within New England — and its cold, clear water keeps it from freezing until well into winter. Devil's Rock on Mount Pisgah is the local diving spot, and the lake was named a National Natural Landmark in 1967.
