About Lake Chelan
Lake Chelan is a glacial fjord in north-central Washington, 50.5 miles long and only about a mile wide, with a maximum depth of 1,486 feet that puts its bottom nearly 400 feet below sea level. Only Crater Lake and Tahoe are deeper in the United States. The upper lake reaches into the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and North Cascades National Park.
The town of Chelan and Manson sit at the sunny lower end among orchards and, increasingly, vineyards; Stehekin at the head of the lake has no road and is reached only by the Lady of the Lake boat, float plane or foot.
