About Lake Whatcom

Lake Whatcom stretches about 10 miles southeast from Bellingham, Washington, up to 328 feet deep, and has supplied the city's drinking water since the 1890s. Bloedel Donovan Park is the city beach; the Sudden Valley community and the old coal-mining town of Blue Canyon line the far shore.

On the board
  • 6 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 627 roads engraved around the shore, 5 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake Whatcom is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
