About Lake Wenatchee
Lake Wenatchee sits in a glacial trough in the Cascade foothills of Chelan County, Washington, formed when a terminal moraine blocked the valley at the end of the last ice age. The White River and Napeequa River feed it from the north, and the Wenatchee River carries the outflow south toward the Columbia. The unincorporated community of Plain sits near its eastern shore, and Lake Wenatchee State Park occupies land along the south end, split into two units joined by a footbridge over the river mouth.
The lake carries a run of sockeye salmon that spawn in the White and Little Wenatchee Rivers each fall, part of the broader Columbia River sockeye system monitored by state and tribal fisheries crews. Cabins and family resorts line stretches of the shore, many built by Wenatchee Valley families as summer retreats from the orchard towns downriver. Boaters use it for water-skiing and sailing in summer, and the state park draws campers, anglers, and cross-country skiers once snow settles over the access roads each winter.
